After diving into some of the homelessness features the city of New York lacks, “The Hub” offers and provides to homeless individuals, and guides them in the direction they need. This relief site provides crucial living essentials, as well having a sense of belonging to a community. The design is intended to invite those in who may need certain living essentials as well as providing temporary shelter. The design intent is to create a pop up space where people can quickly collect what they may need and have a place for rest if necessary. The main structure will be an inflatable set of circular bubbles, which will offer different amenities that will contribute to everyone. Considering the weather, the inflatables will be made of PVC material which is polychloride vinyl. This material is waterproof, flexible, as well as being lightweight. As for the interior, the structure will have 4 different hubs. Each hub will offer different pop up stations that will provide different amenities. The design will be efficient and durable and will be quickly operable for easy access. As one may walk through, they will see the bubbles are color coated to create an easy wayfinding journey. The colors will represent different stations and how they correlate to trauma design. As for stability,The structure will be held up with 4 stakes which will be attached by a strong nylon strap and hammered into the ground. The flooring will be made of a recycled polythene tarp, which is great for heavy traffic and is waterproof. The 3 main pop ups will be health care, food and technology. As for the entry, the main lounge will be considered the main meeting area where people can gather and create a sense of community. The grand structure of the Hub is intended to draw people in and have a welcoming effect as well as an experience as people pass through. The structure will be attached to a truck which will be designed for quick pick up. The truck will have a large check in window where the people can talk with the concierge to begin their experience. The truck will also provide all electricity as well as an air compressor for the inflatable structure.
